Hot off the truck -

TomCat

This lamp has an ebony finish with ivory stripes and cast aluminum details. The square bell shade is a black linen textile.  Can you just imagine a room designed around this lamp?

Nine Figures

Interesting wall decor in the new colors. This set of 9 oil reproductions features a hand applied brushstroke finish. The convex pieces may be hung in any order.

 Hurricane

Features an old barn finish with bronze metal details and clear seeded glass. Antiqued candle included.

Just like the plumber that doesn’t do his own plumbing…

What style, colors, artwork, furniture, etc. do I want in my own house?

I have been the worst customer ever so far, but finally feel like we are making some progress. We have a basic ranch home built in the early 1980’s. My husband and I like similar styles (a mix of old world, contemporary and french country). Not an easy group to mix. I love blue, but want to have a variety of colors.

The designers are trying to work with us, but we’ve been difficult!
Here is what one rug looks like with some sample fabrics. My interest is peaked, but not sure where this is going to go. What pictures? What tables and lamps?? I’ll try to keep you posted on our progress.jw-001.jpg

Inner Wisconsin - Wisconsin Rapids Area

Jaime May 8th, 2008

“Talk about your fixer upper”
The Wisconsin Rapids area has a major identity crisis.  We don’t know who we are or who we want to be.  I say “we” because Furniture Studio belongs to this area.

Wisconsin Rapids and the surrounding communities (except the Town of Saratogo, but that is another issue entirely) are trying to wrap their arms around a new brand… Inner Wisconsin

how_crane_logo_final1.JPG

Inner Wisconsin, formerly known as Central Wisconsin (because Stevens Point & Wausau, WI are taking over that title) is trying to re-brand itself.  As a community, we’ve been wallowing in our ‘doom & gloom’ depression instead of waking up to the opportunites and qualities that we do have!

Personally, I think the name ‘Inner Wisconsin’ is nice, but it’s going to be very difficult to educate everyone on what that means.  Think Fox Valley vs. Door County or Wisconsin Dells.  (Technically a lot of the business is done in Lake Delton, but I don’t think Lake Delton cares that nobody knows that).

Wisconsin Rapids is known for many things such as sporting events like the Baseball WIAC tournament and the State Water Ski show at Lake Wazeecha.  Inner Wisconsin isn’t known for anything.  You could argue that they aren’t known for anything… YET.  But … I would respond with “why reinvent the wheel”.  We should be building on what the Wisconsin Rapids area has already accomplished and making it greater.

Wisconsin Rapids is a great name because it says where we are and some of what we have to offer.  WATER.  I think we should have made this the Wisconsin Rapids area, but it’s probably too late.  So let’s Revitalize Inner Wisconsin!

Updating Your Home

Jaime January 11th, 2008

Updating your home for resale or just to enjoy for yourself can be difficult.  It’s hard to have a critical eye for things the way someone else may see your home.  I know they say the bathroom is really important and that pedestal sinks look great to prospective buyers, but what if I really like the storage that comes with the outdated cabinets?  Maybe the next buyer will too!

In a design call to a home today we helped a wonderful couple take a good look at their home.  They had already started removing some cabinets to open the kitchen up.  That was a great start.  We agreed that the oak cabinets could use some new hardware (easiest way to update a kitchen).   Next, a fresh coat of paint.  We selected something warm & neutral to go with the new laminate flooring.  A darker accent wall will look nice - and possibly a textured effect so we don’t have to worry about getting the wall perfect after the wallpaper.

We are going to recommend replacing the plaid sofa with a leather or leather/fabric combo.  They both like a casual style and leather works great.  It is also very durable.  (Perfect since they have 2 kids)

Drapes in the dining room - NEED to come down.  Someone may have spent a lot of money on it, but it is very dated.  A simple rod with panels from softline is what we need there.  Great looks, great price.  Keep the wood floor, change the fixture.

Everything takes time, but at least we have a starting point!
I believe an investment in your home is an investment in your friends & family!

No Sales…on Diamonds

Jaime December 10th, 2007

While browsing the web I discovered that Paul Gross Jewelers in Wisconsin Rapids chooses to offer everyday competitive prices instead of sales.  Imagine that.  The Kohls and Furniture & Appliancemarts of the world make their money by having a “sale” every weekend.

Their slogan is “if you don’t know diamonds, know your jeweler”.  I like it.
Will that last in today’s internet driven, price competetive, less than loyal society?

I don’t wear jewelry, but if I did… I think it would be a great experience to shop in a Private Sale “after hours”!

Overstock.com

Jaime December 9th, 2007

Ok. Ok.  So you are going to buy furniture online.  Of course, it’s easier to shop in your pj’s from home (out of the cold).  But there are other places to purchase from than overstock.com.  There are a lot of places that have unique & quality things for great prices.

This is the game.  Online retailers offer LOW pricing and *free shipping for the same price that your local furniture store will deliver it (AND SERVICE it) for.  The ONLY value is that you didn’t have to brave the weather or shop in more than one store.

If your browsing for furniture online, email me if you’d like some more options or can’t find what your looking for.  I’d LOVE to help.  I’m a furniture online research fanatic.

Naturally

Jaime December 9th, 2007

You’ve seen this look in Pottery Barn & maybe everywhere else.  You may have seen it as chair & ottoman, but this happens to be a recliner.  Make it casual, lifestyle or rustic just by changing the leather.
