Updating Your Home

Updating your home for resale or just to enjoy for yourself can be difficult. It’s hard to have a critical eye for things the way someone else may see your home. I know they say the bathroom is really important and that pedestal sinks look great to prospective buyers, but what if I really like the storage that comes with the outdated cabinets? Maybe the next buyer will too!
In a design call to a home today we helped a wonderful couple take a good look at their home. They had already started removing some cabinets to open the kitchen up. That was a great start. We agreed that the oak cabinets could use some new hardware (easiest way to update a kitchen). Next, a fresh coat of paint. We selected something warm & neutral to go with the new laminate flooring. A darker accent wall will look nice - and possibly a textured effect so we don’t have to worry about getting the wall perfect after the wallpaper.
We are going to recommend replacing the plaid sofa with a leather or leather/fabric combo. They both like a casual style and leather works great. It is also very durable. (Perfect since they have 2 kids)
Drapes in the dining room - NEED to come down. Someone may have spent a lot of money on it, but it is very dated. A simple rod with panels from softline is what we need there. Great looks, great price. Keep the wood floor, change the fixture.
Everything takes time, but at least we have a starting point!
I believe an investment in your home is an investment in your friends & family!
